Dark Forest

The touch of the wind,

Dances over my skin,

The sun bleeds red,

The clouds drip tears,

I dance in this dark forest,

I let the dark nature take its course…

Dark Space: Chapter 7

“Learn to control your temper” Sydney stated as she came into the break room to find Keith looking under a desk in the middle of the room. He didn’t turn to look at her. The room was partially lit. The only light that came into the room was from the enormous window that looked out into deep space, and the galaxy stars gave the room a soft glow.

“I understand what he did was wrong but you act like a crazy person does not help the problem, it just makes it worse,” Keith moved from under the desk and headed over to the other side of the room and not answering his girlfriend.

“Keith, are you fucking listening to me?” Sydney spat out.

“I hear you” Keith said coolly as he grabbed a flashlight from a nearby table. He turned on the flashlight and started looking around in the dim corners of the room. Sydney annoyingly went around the table where he was standing and stood right in front of him.

“I don’t give a shit if you’re still mad, you can’t keep acting like that!” Keith looked up from where he was looking at gazed at his frustrated girlfriend. Even with her annoyed with him, she still looked beautiful to him. Her deep curls were pulled back into a messy ponytail and her deep brown eyes stared intently into Keith’s and it only softened Keith’s heart. To try and lighten the mood and her attitude he lifted his flashlight to Stacy’s face only to further her annoyances with him as she was blinded by the light.

“Keith stop it! I’m serious!” She raised her voice only to have Keith chuckle uncontrollably, his laughter was so contagious that Sydney started to smile but she really wanted to keep her seriousness with him. Just then there was a rustling sound coming from behind Sydney. The couple turned their attention to the sound that was coming from the far corner of the room.

“Get behind me…” Keith said as he took Sydney by the arm and brought her behind him. Keith slowly walked over to the dark corner where the suspicious noise came from. There was nothing but dim blackness and the silhouette of the chairs and tables that were in the corner of the room. Just as he walked closer to the corner, something quick and dark jump out from the empty corner and landed on Keith’s chest.

“Fuck!” Keith yelled as he fell backwards. Sydney screeched as well as Keith fell to the ground. She ran up to Keith on the floor and watch as the gloomy figure scurried away.

Keith took his flashlight from the floor and pointed at the direction of where the moving figure went. The light shown over the alien and its long tentacles as it slowly started to move from the corner of the room. The grey and blue creature twitched and stopped in its place. The alien’s exterior body started to shrink and wither into a lumped ball. Green and dark blue ooze came out from its body and started to spread on the floor. Keith and Sydney watched as they were still on the floor. The alien’s liquid substance started to bubble and disintegrate the floor underneath it. Keith got up from the ground and helped Sydney up from her spot. They both walked slowly up to the now withered creature’s body. They stopped just close to it and gave it a further look. Sydney covered her mouth as the stench that came from its body was vial.

“Go get the Captain” Keith said calmly and softly. Sydney walked backwards to the door and turned to make a sprint to the medical room to get there Captain.

Dark Space: Chapter 6

“What do you mean it just fell off?!” Sydney looked at James with bewilderment. James got up from his spot on the floor and looked at his second-in-command warrant officer with a calm expression.

“I went to go get some extra supplies from the wreck room,” he said

“Keith asked me to do some extra test, and I needed more supplies” James walked behind Stacy to the medical pod bed where Ryan was still laying unconscious and continued his story.

“When I came back into the room, I didn’t see the creature on Ryan’s face” Sydney and Keith walked over to Ryan’s stilled body. Sydney looked at Keith with worry in her eyes, but Keith didn’t notice as he was looking over Ryan’s lifeless form.

“Ryan’s vital signs are normal, he’s still alive, but the creature is nowhere in this room,” Both Keith and Sydney turned to look at James with a bewilderment expression.

“You mean to tell me that this thing is up and loose in the ship!?” Keith’s voice boomed in the room.

“Calm the fuck downKeith!” Carter balked at his Warrant Officer with an equal amount of volume in his voice. Keith wasn’t going to have any of his Captain’s temper or his enraged attitude. He stepped up into Carter’s face and gave him a cold steel look. He was about to say something vial to his Captain until Sydney came up from behind her boyfriend and went in between the two hot headed men.

“Keith don’t!” She quickly went right in front of her boyfriend and put her hands on his chest. She could feel his heart pounding in his chest. She looked up at him, to find that he was still giving their Captain a deathly glare.

“You two have to calm down!” Sydney said trying to push Keith back away from the Captain’s face. But Keith didn’t budge as Carter kept his death stare at him. This was nothing new, for these two men always had some sort of respected hatred for each other. But right now, Keith was fuming which he should feel rightfully so.

“If you would of fucking listened and done the quarantine in the fucking first place, which you know, was protocol…we wouldn’t be having that fucking thing lose in this ship” Keith’s accent became deep and heavy with anger as he spoke and his voice rising.

“Back the fuck off Keith!” Carter demanded as he stood in his place.

“Would you two stop it!?” Sydney raised her voice over the heated tension between the two men. Both men stepped back from each other, just enough to give each other some personal space. Carter’s icy blue eyes kept his death glare on Keith.

“This isn’t going to help us find out what happened to that thing that was on Ryan’s face…” Sydney looked Keith in the eyes; she saw his expression starting to soften a bit. Sydney let go of Keith’s chest and looked between the both men that was standing in front of her.

“Look for what we know, Ryan is still alive but now we have to find this creature and contain it before it gets lost anywhere else on the ship” Now both the men were looking at Sydney as she spoke.

“It couldn’t have gotten far…me and Keith will look in the break room that is next door, Captain you and James can keep looking here and check on Ryan…okay?” Both Kit and Carter looked back at each other and gave one another a second dirty stare down.

“Okay?!”Sydney tried to bring back there attention. Keith looked down at Sydney and nodded his head in understanding before turning around angrily and heading towards the door. Sydney looked on as Keith walked away; she knew Keith would be angry for the remainder of the day. He had a hard time letting things go whenever he got into an argument. Sydney turned around and looked at her Captain.

“Please check up on Ryan and make sure he is okay” Sydney was ready to turn around and head out the door way when her Captain called out to her.

“You better keep your boyfriend in check” This statement made Sydney freeze in her place. ‘Does he know?’ She thought to herself. She didn’t want to alarm her Captain of his statement that he just made. The last thing she needed with the current situation was for him to be suspicious of her and Keith dating. That could lead to extra problems she didn’t need at the moment. She just turned to look at her Captain who was still visibly angry.

“Will do Captain…”

“Life is a bowl of cherries. Some cherries are rotten while others are good; its your job to throw out the rotten ones and forget about them while you enjoy eating the ones that are good! There are two kinds of people: those who choose to throw out the good cherries and wallow in all the rotten ones, and those who choose to throw out all the rotten ones and savor all the good ones.”

“Life is such unutterable hell, solely because it is sometimes beautiful. If we could only be miserable all the time, if there could be no such things as love or beauty or faith or hope, if I could be absolutely certain that my love would never be returned: how much more simple life would be. One could plod through the Siberian salt mines of existence without being bothered about happiness. Unfortunately the happiness is there. There is always the chance (about eight hundred and fifty to one) that another heart will come to mine. I can’t help hoping, and keeping faith, and loving beauty. Quite frequently I am not so miserable as it would be wise to be.”
