Overlord Movie Review

Overlord takes many different horror and war movie elements you’ve seen before and creates a mashup that is able to deliver some gory fun.

On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers drop behind enemy lines to penetrate the walls of a fortified church and destroy a radio transmitter. As the soldiers approach their target, they soon begin to realize that there’s more going on in the Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. Making their way to an underground lab, the outnumbered men stumble upon a sinister experiment that forces them into a vicious battle against an army of the undead.

I must say, I’m happy to see my “Game of Thrones” alumni in something different (Pilou Asbaek who plays ‘Euron Greyjoy’ & Jacob Anderson who plays ‘Grey Worm’). During the movie, I noticed Jacob and yelled out “Look, its Grey Worm!” the moment my husband asked me which one (it was a dark movie and his accent is different) he ended up blowing up into pieces by a land mine. That’s when I turned to my husband and blurted “That one…”

I feel like you don’t have to be in the mood to watch a war period film to enjoy this film. This film does give an accurate attempt of WWII and Hitler’s experiments, but this film gave those accounts and add some crack to it. Some scenes were horrific that I ended up having nightmares about it.

Overall, this movie gets my approval. Great action, loved the character developments and the special effects were on point. I hope they somehow make a sequel to this movie.

Big Legend Movie Review

0_Ek_CUxKsHCWg7vPF

This movie is about an ex-soldier venture into the forests of the pacific northwest to uncover the truth behind his fiance’s disappearance.

Its pretty much what you expect from a bigfoot/monster movie. They really try to sell you on the whole love story and for the most part, it did work. The horror sequences were pretty moderate and not over the top gory.

The creature design wasn’t so bad either. You really didn’t see the monsters face most of the time, but then again that’s not such a bad idea. Overall, its really just a guilty pleasure movie that you can enjoy for the most part.

Shifting Inspiration

I got the idea to write this horror short story based on the movie Splinter and The Mist horror novella by Stephen King…

I had gone through a horrible “break up” if you will of a best friend I used to have…During my grieving process, I decided to write this short story out of anger and frustration.

I was very excited that I got a nice feedback from the editor I work with on Coffee House Writers. This writing project will last long into July and I’m very excited to write out the next chapters…
